## About the Treatment

A skin biopsy is a minor procedure in which a fragment of the lesion is removed under local anesthesia and sent to a pathology lab for analysis. It is the most reliable method for clarifying the diagnosis of suspicious lesions, persistent spots, nodules and various inflammatory skin conditions, such as psoriasis, lupus or hard-to-define dermatitis. Depending on the lesion, the sample may be taken with a punch (a small cylindrical tool), by superficial shaving, or by completely removing the lesion. At Femi Saúde, Dr. Ana Kappes performs the procedure in the office, explains what to expect during healing, and guides care through stitch removal and the follow-up visit to discuss the results.
