Anorectal Abscess Drainage
Urgent treatment for anal infection
About the Treatment
An anorectal abscess is a collection of pus that forms in the tissues around the anus and rectum, usually from an infected anal gland. It causes intense, constant pain, swelling, redness and sometimes fever. Treatment is surgical drainage, which should be performed as soon as possible: the coloproctologist opens and empties the collection under anesthesia, providing quick pain relief. Antibiotics alone do not replace drainage. Since some abscesses progress to an anal fistula, follow-up after the procedure is essential. At Femi Saúde, the coloproctology team performs the drainage in an appropriate setting, guides wound care and reassesses the patient to identify and treat any resulting fistula.
