Clinical Breast Exam
Breast assessment during the consultation with the breast specialist
About the Treatment
The clinical breast exam is the assessment performed by the breast specialist during the consultation: careful inspection and palpation of the breasts, armpits and the areas above the collarbones, looking for lumps, changes in the skin and nipple, retractions, asymmetries and discharge. It is a simple, painless and quick exam, recommended annually from age 25, and is part of the prevention routine alongside imaging exams — which it does not replace, but complements, since some changes are first noticed by touch. During the consultation, the breast specialist also listens to complaints, reviews personal and family history, guides breast self-awareness and determines, according to each woman's age and risk, which screening exams to order and how often.
