Cryotherapy (Liquid Nitrogen)
Controlled freezing of skin lesions
About the Treatment
Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen, at around minus 196 degrees, to freeze and controllably destroy benign or pre-malignant skin lesions. It is one of the most widely used treatments for warts, seborrheic keratoses, actinic keratoses, molluscum contagiosum and some spots. The spray or cotton-tip application lasts only a few seconds, causes a brief burning sensation, and over the following days the lesion forms a small scab that falls off naturally. At Femi Saúde, Dr. Ana Kappes evaluates each lesion with dermoscopy before recommending cryotherapy, determines the number of applications needed, and guides care of the treated area for the best possible cosmetic outcome as it heals.
