About the Treatment

The Pap smear is the collection of cells from the cervix for laboratory analysis. It is the main cervical cancer screening exam, as it can identify cellular changes at an early stage, when treatment is simplest and most effective. The sample is collected during the gynecological consultation with the aid of a speculum, takes only a few minutes and usually causes only mild discomfort. The frequency of the exam is determined by the gynecologist according to each patient's age, history and previous results. For the collection, it is recommended not to be menstruating and to avoid sexual intercourse, douching and vaginal medications for the two days beforehand.
