Procedimento hospitalar de urgência

About the Treatment

Appendectomy is the removal of the appendix, indicated in acute appendicitis — inflammation that causes abdominal pain starting around the navel and migrating to the lower right side, with nausea, loss of appetite and fever. It is an emergency: the sooner it is operated on, the lower the risk of perforation and complications. By laparoscopy, the surgery is performed through three small incisions, with less pain, discreet scars and a faster return to activities; the technique also allows the ovaries and fallopian tubes to be examined, which is important in women, since pelvic pain can have other causes. The hospital stay is usually short. In more complicated cases, the open technique may be necessary.
