About the Treatment

Moles (nevi) are very common benign lesions, but some are bothersome because of their appearance, friction with clothing or location, and others need to be removed for analysis when they change in color, size or shape. Before any removal, the lesion is assessed; suspicious lesions are removed with a margin and sent for pathology. Benign, raised moles can be removed with a CO₂ laser, which vaporizes the lesion with precision and a discreet scar, or through surgery under local anesthesia, when the tissue needs to be preserved for analysis. The procedure is quick, performed in the office, and the patient receives guidance on sun protection and scar care.
