About the Treatment

High-frequency surgery (LEEP), also called loop conization, is a procedure that removes a small portion of the cervix using a thin wire heated by a high-frequency electrical current. It is indicated mainly to treat precancerous lesions of the cervix caused by HPV and identified on a Pap smear and colposcopy. In addition to treating the lesion, the removed tissue is sent for analysis, which confirms the diagnosis. The procedure is quick, usually performed under local anesthesia, and recovery is generally smooth, with guidance on sexual abstinence and care in the following weeks. Afterward, follow-up with Pap smears and colposcopy is essential.
