Endometriosis is an inflammatory condition in which tissue similar to the endometrium grows outside the uterus, which can cause intense cramping, pelvic pain, pain during intercourse and difficulty becoming pregnant. Many women improve with clinical treatment, but in some cases — such as pain that does not respond to medication, endometriomas, deep lesions or infertility — surgery is indicated. The procedure is performed by laparoscopy and aims to remove the areas affected by the disease, preserving organs whenever possible. The indication is individualized and based on a consultation, physical exam and specific imaging tests.
