Gallbladder surgery through small incisions

Consulta + procedimento hospitalar

About the Treatment

Cholecystectomy is the surgical removal of the gallbladder, indicated mainly for gallstones (cholelithiasis) causing pain, gallbladder inflammation (cholecystitis), and complications such as pancreatitis or bile duct obstruction. Using laparoscopy, the surgery is performed through three or four small incisions in the abdomen, with a camera and thin instruments, providing less pain, discreet scars, a shorter hospital stay — usually discharge the same day or the next — and a faster return to activities. The gallbladder is not essential: after surgery, bile flows directly from the liver into the intestine, and most people keep their usual diet with few adjustments. The surgery is performed in a hospital setting, under general anesthesia.
