About the Treatment

Colposcopy is a gynecological exam that uses special magnification and lighting to examine the cervix, vagina and vulva in detail. It is mainly indicated when a Pap smear shows abnormal results, to investigate HPV-related lesions, or following findings noted during a consultation. During the exam, solutions are applied to help highlight areas that need attention and, when necessary, a biopsy can be taken at the same time for laboratory analysis. The exam is performed in the office, is quick and usually causes only mild discomfort. The result guides the most appropriate follow-up or treatment for each patient.
