About the Treatment

Laser drainage is indicated for Bartholin gland cysts and abscesses that cause pain, swelling and discomfort when sitting, walking or during intercourse. Under local anesthesia, the CO₂ laser opens the cyst precisely, drains its contents and vaporizes the wall of the cavity, with minimal bleeding and usually no stitches. The procedure takes a few minutes, is performed in the office and allows a return to light activities within a day or two, with simple local care guided by the gynecologist. Compared with conventional drainage, the laser offers a more comfortable recovery and a lower chance of the cyst coming back. Recurrent cases may call for marsupialization or bartholinectomy, decided after assessment.
