Tubal Ligation
Permanent contraception
About the Treatment
Tubal ligation is a permanent contraceptive method in which the fallopian tubes are interrupted to prevent the egg from meeting the sperm. It is currently performed, in most cases, by laparoscopy, with small incisions and faster recovery, in a hospital setting. Since it is a permanent method, the decision should be made without haste: Brazilian law establishes criteria, such as a minimum age of 21 or at least two living children, and a minimum waiting period of 60 days between expressing the wish for the procedure and performing it. During the consultation, the gynecologist clarifies any questions, presents reversible alternatives and explains every step.
