About the Treatment

Myomectomy is surgery that removes fibroids — benign tumors that form in the muscle of the uterus — while preserving the uterus. It is indicated mainly for women with fibroids that cause heavy bleeding, cramping, pain, increased abdominal volume, pressure on the bladder or difficulty becoming pregnant, especially when there is a desire for future pregnancy. The technique depends on the size, number and location of the fibroids: it can be performed by hysteroscopy, for fibroids that grow into the uterine cavity, by laparoscopy or via the abdominal route. The surgery is performed in a hospital setting, under anesthesia, and the indication and technique are determined during a consultation, after a clinical examination and imaging tests.
